旧樽をメインに使いオールドワールドの繊細さとアロマをフィーチャーした「ジ・オールド・ガード」
定温で発酵を行い、フレッシュ感と繊細な果実をキープしています。

ザ・ヒルトは、サンタ・バーバラ・カウンティの沿岸部の自社畑からシャルドネとピノ・ノワールを生産するプレミアムワイナリーです。カリフォルニア・カルトワインの代名詞であるスクリーミング・イーグルのオーナー、StanKroenke(スタン・クロンキー)が所有し、スクリーミング・イーグルの姉妹ワイナリーとして知られています。

将来を期待される若き才能あふれるワインメーカー、マット・ディースが醸造を務めます。マットは「透明感」があるワインの醸造を得意とし、畑のテロワールをワインにそのまま表現させることができるスペシャリストです。彼は醸造科学を専門分野としていて、巷では土壌オタクと呼ばれています。そのオタクの彼だからこそつくれるワイン、それがザ・ヒルトのシャルドネとピノ・ノワールです。

「ジ・オールド・ガード」は控えめでエレガントなスタイルのワインです。香りと味わいにはミネラルが広がり、どこか旨みを感じるような複雑性があります。謙虚で優しいスタイルのワインです。名前は「昔かたぎ」を意味します。

■ティスティング・ノート■
はちみつ、グアバ、レモンの皮、そしてアプリコットのような香り。ジューシーなネクタリンを彷彿とさせるような味わいで、みずみずしい果実といきいきした酸を感じる美味しさです。飾り気のない樽のニュアンスもあり、新鮮さと生真面目さ、そして深みとバランスが共存するワインです。Matt Dees, Winemaker

The 2016 Chardonnay Old Guard comes from the oldest vines of the estate and is brought up all in older oak. It offers an almost Alsatian Riesling-like minerality and green citrus streak, with more orchard fruits, white flowers, and classic salinity coming through with time in the glass. Deep, rich, and beautifully textured on the palate, it has vibrant acidity, plenty of density and mid-palate oomph, and a great finish. It too will keep for a decade or more, and I suspect it will be even better with a year or two in bottle.

the 2016 Chardonnay Old Guard is just as exceptional from bottle as it was from barrel. Tense and brilliant, with tons of pure class, the 2016 oozes with intensity in all of its dimensions. Crushed rocks, slate, lemon peel, mint and white pepper are all crisply delineated in a vivid, nuanced Chardonnay that hits all the right notes.
