自社畑Eleven Confessionsより収穫されたブドウを使用。 愛する妻、Elaineの頭文字を付けた、特別で魅惑的な１本! シネ・クア・ノンはサンタバーバラ近郊のオーク・ビューに位置する小さなワイナリーです。シネ・クア・ノンとはラテン語で『不可欠なもの』という意味ですが、オーナー兼ワインメーカーであるマンフレッド・クランクルが語る“シネ・クア・ノン”とは、『真の美しさとは個々の主観を超越して心を開くと感じられる』という少し哲学的な考えによるものです。 1992年のリリース以来、ラベルは毎年アート性のあるデザインに毎年変更し、同じラベルは二度と使いません。またラベルだけではなくブレンドやワイン名も毎年替えております。各ワインにはユーモラスな名前をつけており、過去にはAgainst the Wall（壁に向かって）Other Hand（別の手）Impostor Mc Coy （ペテン師マッコイ）等があります。それだけ毎年違うワインを造り続けながらも、過去にロバート・パーカーから17度も100点満点を獲得しております。 「グルナッシュ イレブン・コンフェッション・ヴィンヤード」は、全て自社畑Eleven Confessionsより収穫。Eleven Confessionsは、サンタ・バーバラの東、サンタ・リタ・ヒルズに位置する22エーカーの畑です。主にシラーとグルナッシュが栽培され、少量のヴィオニエ、ルーサンヌも作られています。比較的涼しい気候で、11月頃収穫されます。熟成がゆっくりと進むため、風味の豊かな果実が採れます。 ■醸造■ 全体の44%を除梗し、上面開放型の発酵槽にて発酵。 フレンチオークバリック61%（内28%新樽）、大樽39%にて38ヶ月熟成。 ■生産者よりコメント■ 今年は私の大好きなグルナッシュには、愛する妻、Elaineの頭文字を付けました。 この名前ですぐにワインの特徴をわかって頂けると思います。特別で魅惑的なワインです。 ラベルのElaineの顔を見ながら飲むと更に美味しくなります。ラベルにそんな力は無いはずなのに。 この美しいワインを説明するのは難しいですが、一つ言えるのはこのワインを飲むと感傷的になるということです。 そしてシラーには私、Manfredの頭文字を与えました。 シラーには良い歳の取り方をしたManfredの特徴が十分に出ていると思います。 グルナッシュはワイン・アドヴォケイトで100点を頂きました。 ポイントの話はあまり好きではないですが、これほど素晴らしい評価を頂いたら無下にはできないでしょう。 シラーは惜しくも99点でした。でもそれは私の顔のラベルのせいじゃないかと思っています・・。 2015は非常に良いヴィンテージで、この2つのワインは素晴らしいワインです。 長期熟成も可能ですがいつでもお楽しみいただけます。 Sine Qua Non Eleven Confessions Vineyard Grenache シネ・クア・ノン グルナッシュ E・イレブン・コンフェッション・ヴィンヤード 生産地：アメリカ カリフォルニア セントラル・コースト サンタ・バーバラ 原産地呼称：Sta. Rita Hills. It bears Elaine Krankl’s initial and a portrait Manfred made of Elaine on the label. The blend is 82% Grenache, 12% Syrah, 5% Petite Syrah and 1% Viognier, and 56% was fermented using whole clusters. It was aged for around 38 months in French oak, 28% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Grenache E slides beguilingly out of the glass with a powerfully evocative, earthy/meaty nose of wood smoke, grilled meats, fragrant soil, truffles and iron ore with a core of kirsch, blackberry pie, Black Forest cake and aniseed plus touches of wild sage, rose hip tea and Indian spices. The palate is full-bodied, surprisingly muscular and built like a brick house with an unbelievable structure of very fine, densely pixilated tannins supporting the generous, multi-faceted layers, finishing with epic length, jaw-dropping texture and tons of cerebral mineral and spice nuances. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County, Central Coast Red wine from United States Drinking window: 2020 - 2030 The 2015 Grenache E, from Elaine and Manfred Krankl’s Eleven Confessions Vineyard, is stunningly beautiful. Remarkably light on its feet for such a sumptuous wine, the 2015 has so much to offer. Beautifully expressive aromatics make a strong opening impression. Dark red and purplish berry fruit, mint, sweet spice and licorice develop with air, but it is the wine’s overall feel that stands out most. At times, the E is quite powerful, while in other moments it is much more delicate. That contrast makes for an utterly captivating wine. Antonio Galloni. The 2017 was done with 29% whole clusters and aged in a combination of 59% new oak, 30% concrete and 11% neutral oak. Rita Hills. As mentioned in my report last year, 33 acres are planted here. Eleven acres of Pinot Noir were already planted when they purchased the property, about half of which has been grafted over, and a further 22 acres were planted by the Krankls in 2001. In order to fully ripen Manfred’s preferred medium-mainly Rh?ne varieties-in this area more commonly planted to cooler-climate grapes such as Pinot and Chardonnay, the Krankls need to go super low on the yields and long on the hang time. “This vineyard is by far the coolest of our vineyards,” Manfred recently explained. “Sometimes we don’t harvest until November.” Punitive yields of 1.5 tons per acre or less are common. In the years when it’s good and ready to sing, Eleven Confessions is used to make a single-vineyard wine under the Sine Qua Non label. “The wines have a lot of structure and presence,” Manfred commented. “The soil is mainly heavy clay, so the wines can be pretty muscular.” The blend is 88% Syrah, 3% Petite Syrah, 7.6% Grenache and 1.4% Viognier. Twenty-nine percent was fermented using whole clusters. It was aged for around 38 months in 38% new French oak, 11% used barrels and 30% concrete. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Syrah Eleven Confessions bursts with notions of baked plums, stewed blackberries and black cherry preserves, with an undercurrent of Sichuan pepper, violets, chocolate mint and charcuterie, plus a lifted suggestion of black raspberries. Rich, full-bodied and decadently opulent, the palate explodes with pepper-spiked black and red berry preserves, framed by fine-grained tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing epically long and spicy. Very impressive. 921 cases, 228 magnums and 24 double magnums were made. This is due to be released in fall 2021.

The winemaking includes 47% whole cluster, and it was aged for 38 months in 62% new French oak (83% were large demi-muids) and 38% in used vessels of various ages and sizes (two to five years old). Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the nose starts off a little closed, offering glimpses at stewed plums, blackberry preserves, and chocolate-covered cherries, giving way to fragrant notions of licorice, violets and cinnamon stick. While there’s no question that this is a big, concentrated, full-bodied wine, it is also incredibly elegant, well-poised and nuanced, featuring many floral and baking spice layers within the decadent black fruits and sporting firm, very finely grained tannins, finishing with incredible length and depth. Bright floral accents and red-toned fruit all run through this backward yet vibrant Grenache from Manfred and Elaine Krankl's Eleven Confessions Vineyard, so named because of the eleven clones planted in the vineyard. Medium-bodied and firm with fine-grained tannins and wonderful freshness, it gives layer upon layer of black fruit and earth notions, finishing very long. Give it another 4-5 years in bottle and drink it over the next 20+.

Parker, Jr. Issue Date 29th Oct 2016 Source 227, The Wine Advocate Little can be added to the greatness of the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin, a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine (600 cases) is truly stunning in its dense, creme de cassis and blackberry-scented nose with a hint of barbecue smoke and forest floor. Tasting like a ripe vintage of Chateau Latour from Pauillac, the wine has amazing richness and a savory, expansive mouthfeel, but tiptoes across the palate like a ballerina. A wine of magnificent richness and intensity, but vibrancy, purity and overall equilibrium, this is a staggeringly great wine and another tribute to the Kapcsandy family’s extraordinary professionalism and meticulous attention to detail in their vineyard. The Kapcsandy Family Winery, with their State Lane Vineyard on the Yountville crossroad, burst on the scene just over ten years ago and now has 20 acres planted, producing just four cuvees. The palate is full-bodied, tightly knit and super intense with a solid structure of perfectly ripe, fine-grained tannins and tons of freshness, finishing very long and minerally. This is one of those very rare wines that so beautifully straddles the pinnacles of hedonic and the cerebral experiences, forever compelling you to take just one more sip.

Parker, Jr. 100 2013 - 2033 The 2002 boasts an inky/purple color along with notes of graphite, violets, blackberries, creme de cassis and hints of charcoal and barbecue in addition to a full-bodied, multilayered mouthfeel that builds incrementally with great purity, staggering fruit concentration, and a long, velvety, 50+-second finish. This prodigious effort should continue to drink well for 20+ years. One of my all-time favorite vintages for Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, 2002 was warmer overall than 2001, but was cooler in May and throughout the summer. Unusually foggy conditions were apparent in July and August, and by September, when a warming trend began, the weather became remarkably dry and beautiful. That was followed by cool weather in early October, which allowed the grapes to be harvested under textbook conditions. Napa’s 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines tend to be flamboyant, All-American, juicy and extroverted with relatively high alcohols. There are 15,000 cases of the 2002 Insignia, a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec that hit 14.4% alcohol. Eighty-five percent of the fruit came from the estate vineyards and the balance from growers. I wish I had purchased more of this spectacular wine for my personal collection.

Parker, Jr. Issue Date 29th Oct 2016 Source 227, The Wine Advocate The best wine so far (although I suspect the 2015 may ultimately enter the picture as well) is the nearly perfect 2013 Promontory Estate. It is simply richer and fuller, with greater integration of tannin, and tastes spectacular. With an opaque, dense purple color and notes of graphite, wet rocks, blackberry and blueberry fruit, some charcoal, and again, loads of spice and loamy soil nuances, the wine has great intensity, a full-bodied texture, and finely grained, sweet tannin. This is a stunner and again, accessible, but its best days are probably a good decade away, as this could very well turn out to be a 40- to 50-year wine.

Deep garnet-purple colored, it's a little reserved to begin, soon unfurling to reveal the most incredible array of floral and red fruit layers-kirsch, redcurrant jelly, black raspberries, lilacs, red roses and lavender-with achingly beautiful wafts of cigar box, pencil lead, camphor, cinnamon stick and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and with fabulous elegance and poise in the mouth, the palate delivers layer upon layer of perfumed black and red fruits with a very firm, finely grained texture and an epically long, mineral-laced finish. Give this knock-out beauty another 5 years in the cellar and drink it over the next 30+. I have no doubt the 2016 will be spectacular when it opens up, but that is going to take at least a few years.
